![]() A design firm intends to provide a proposal for an upcoming project. The firm believes the business will be in competition, so they want to provide strong evidence to their client (often the owner or perhaps a contractor) that their company (or team) and their proposal is more attractive than their competition's. In addition to the usual proposal elements- relevant project/customer references, personnel resumes, technology capabilities, pricing, etc.- many firms today are also asking surveyors or other measurement professionals equipped with laser scanners to provide a high-definition survey of the subject site or structure to enhance the firm's proposal and competitive position. The architecture firm can use a high-accuracy, high-definition survey of the site or structure to develop a more specific and detailed proposal that provides a higher level of confidence to the site owner that their proposal is right on the mark (and money!). Such high-definition surveys often also enable the engineering firm or team to reduce their contingency estimates, as the architecture firm faces fewer unknowns for their actual design. Because of the complete nature of the data collected through laser scanning, a minimal amount of time is needed to prepare an impressive amount of presentation materials. Additionally, the scan data that has been collected can often be directly re-used for the actual engineering work without necessarily having to revisit the site for additional surveying.
