San Diego International Airport (SAN) Terminal 2 West and Mechanical Room |
San Diego, CA |
Turner/PCL/Flatiron |
The Turner/PCL/Flatiron Joint Venture approached ScanWorks to complete a 3D laser scan of Terminal 2 of San Diego International Airport. The project team contacted ScanWorks after a failed attempt by the low-bid contractor to provide an accurate point cloud and Autodesk Revit model of the existing conditions. ScanWorks came through with flying colors on both ends providing the design team accurate BIM ready data they could us with confidence and also saving the Terminal 2 West project from tens of thousands of dollars in delays. |

Fort Lauderdale - Hollywood International Airport (FLL) Terminal 1 |
Ft. Lauderdale, FL. |
G&T Conveyor |
G&T called in ScanWorks to scan the existing conditions of Terminal 1 when G&T engineers noticed discrepancies on the as-built drawings supplied by the airport. Although the project was fairly uncluttered, large HVAC ducts and units occupied enormous amounts of space in the room. Poor information on these large obstructions made it risky for engineers to design structural supports for the new conveyors. G&T used the scan data to update the as-built drawings and restore confidence in their 3D models. |

Hensel Phelps |
Hensel Phelps turned to ScanWorks early in the life of this project. While working on a qualification package in response to the airport's RFQ, Hensel Phelps brought ScanWorks in to help win the bid. ScanWorks scanned a portion of the project, converted the point cloud data into a model and generated an animation. That media package helped tip the scales and ultimately win the project. ScanWorks then scanned the project in its entirety and modeled the cloud data into AutoCAD solids. Having a perfect representation of the existing conditions on-site allowed Hensel Phelps to use NavisWorks to coordinate all of the trades. This building was ideal for this BIM application because of its age and complexity.

Cisco Office Building |
Mountain View, CA |
Gensler Architecture |
Cisco Systems hired Gensler to design a major renovation to one of their data centers. The building consisted of large equipment panels, back-up systems, power generators and all of the piping, conduit and HVAC that was needed to connect and cool the system. The project spanned two floors and Revit was the design tool of choice. ScanWorks scanned the existing conditions and supplied a Revit model of every object over 1/4" in size. ScanWorks coordinated around the tough security requirements and delivered an accurate 3D model that became the base background for the entire design team. |

Gensler Architecture |
Gensler commissioned ScanWorks to scan an existing office building in Silicon Valley for the purposes of renovating the space for a new function. The challenge was to remove the existing ceiling tile, scan the space and replace the ceiling tile all while being undetected by employees arriving Monday morning. This wouldn't be difficult if the schedule wasn't limited to one weekend however ScanWorks completed the project by working in 24-hour shifts; submitting the compiled data as a 3D Revit file meeting all client design standards. |

Leo A. Daly Architects |
Leo A. Daly Architects invited ScanWorks early in the design phase to participate in the design team and provide a 3D as-built model of the existing conditions. The location of the project was in the oldest part of the airport and plagued by multiple layers of poorly documented MEP that had been installed, diverted and partially abandoned over the years. |

Hensel Phelps |
ScanWorks teamed up with Hensel Phelps construction to create a 3D model of the project to be used for coordination. ScanWorks scanned the 28,000 square foot existing bag-room of Terminal A and generated a full 3D model in NavisWorks and AutoCAD formats. The model included every pipe and conduit larger than ¼" in diameter, beams, columns, existing conveyor, HVAC, electrical panels and components and miscellaneous objects. Hensel Phelps then integrated the model with the architect's and subcontractors' 3D models to enable a virtual construction of the project to analyze potential problems. The project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget due to these efforts. |

CAGE and G&T hired ScanWorks to scan 43,000 square feet of existing bag-room for an obstruction analysis. Working closely with CAGE, ScanWorks overlaid the new conveyor design over the existing conditions to identify potential obstructions and coordinated relocation of utilities to make the design work. Additionally, ScanWorks created a full 3D model of the existing conditions used as part of a value engineering study to optimize the BHS design and coordinate the subcontractor's utility relocation. |

Pistorino & Alam Engineering |
ScanWorks performed a scan of the steel mesh that the Wings of Asia Aviary exhibit uses to contain their exotic birds. ScanWorks provided 3D and 2D data showing deviations in the mesh netting. Pistorino and Alam used this data to calculate structural adjustments to the mesh to prevent column warping and to order a new, accurately sized steel mesh. |

Scan of an existing bag-room totaling 22,000 square feet for an obstruction analysis of the new BHS design. ScanWorks located close to 250 potential conflicts and helped coordinate their resolution. ScanWorks' 3D models and 2D drawings allowed the client to correct original design issues and also to prevent future conflicts arising from relocated utilities resolved during the initial conflict resolution. |

G&T Conveyor |
G&T Conveyor commissioned ScanWorks to scan the bag-room of Terminal C to document as-built conditions. There was a lack of confidence in the accuracy of the existing conditions portrayed by the design drawings. ScanWorks generated 3D models of the intended conveyor design and overlaid them with the as-built point cloud data to produce a conflict analysis report. A secondary function of the provided information focused on engineering updated structural elements to support the new conveyors. |

PCL Construction |
PCL brought in ScanWorks to scan a 57,000 square foot area consisting of office space being reconditioned to fit a new in-line EDS baggage handling system slated to connect with an adjacent, existing bag room. ScanWorks documented the existing conditions with a hybrid drawing set showing the obstructions modeled in 3D with 2D dimensions showing interferences. This process not only assisted with the relocation of all MEP but also confirmed the location of previously undocumented structural members. This effort saved the airport over 1 million dollars and approximately 3 months in schedule delays. |
